This project is in my own home. My kids both have the same room layout and they are big. When we bought our home, which was a foreclosure, I wanted to wall off part of the room and create a walk-in closet and tear out the existing small closet to the right of the dormer. But the contractor convinced me I should simply make another small closet opposite the existing one. This created an even longer "tunnel" to the dormer.
Fast forward and we did exactly what I wanted except this time we had to tear out two small closets. We had the new 5' deep closet framed and I built 16 cabinets, eight per closet, to serve as storage. The kids and I realized that they would rather have several more shelves than the abundance of hanging space, so more shelves are being added.
Each closet has six drawers, a painted wood countertop, shelves, a double-hang cabinet, long-hang cabinet, medium-hang cabinet, and storage space above the cabinets. The closets will be completed with a full-length mirror for dressing.
